NU defeats Bryant, 125-92, in first home meet of 2011

Results

The Northeastern swimming and diving team was victorious in its first home meet of the 2011-12 season, defeating Bryant, 125-92, on Wednesday night in Barletta Natatorium. With the victory, Northeastern improves to 2-1 (0-0 CAA) on the season.

The Huskies won seven of the first 10 events to clinch the meet victory and turn the remaining events into exhibitions for the Huskies. Northeastern started the meet off strong by placing 1-2-3 in the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Nicole Colucci, Julia Alvarez, Anna Schegoleva and Jill Kearns posted the fastest time, clocking in at 3:59.68.

Northeastern earned its second victory of the night courtesy of Colleen McCormack, as the sophomore finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:54.92. The Huskies received their third first-place finish in the fifth event, as senior captain Jill Kearns won the 400 IM in 4:31.30. Kearns led a trio of Huskies that placed first through third in the event, as sophomore twins Julia Sepulveda (4:32.57) and Adriana Sepulveda (4:39.00), placed second and third, respectively.

The top two spots in the 200 butterfly belonged to Northeastern, as Kearns picked up her second individual victory of the evening with a time of 2:08.07. J. Sepulveda finished in second with a time of 2:11.54.

Rookie Anna Schegoleva was the leader in the 200 backstroke, winning in 2:06.43, edging out teammate Allison Walker who finished in second (2:11.53). Fellow rookie Megan Foran was victorious in the 500 freestyle, claiming first in 5:12.63. Jill Shields followed for second in 5:16.54.

Senior captain Rachael Peterson led the team from the 1-meter diving platform, as she placed first with a score of 248.35. Candace Young (243.00) and Anne Schaafsma (173.62) also earned points for Northeastern, placing second and third, respectively.

With the Huskies already accumulating enough points for the victory, the 200 breaststroke, 200 freestyle relay and 3-meter dive all became exhibition events for Northeastern.
