The Huskies concluded their regular season with a loss to William & Mary on Saturday, 3-2, in overtime.
Mike Kennedy and
Don Anding had goals in the losing effort.
William & Mary got off to a hot start, testing
Oliver Blum early and often in the opening stanza, with the keeper making four saves in the first half. Northeastern struggled to hit the target though, with six first half shots failing to force a save from Tribe keeper Colin Smolinsky.
As the half wound to a close, the Huskies committed an error to give the Tribe the lead on the stroke of halftime. Northeastern failed to clear a throw-in from William & Mary's Michael Telman, with the ball bouncing to Roshan Patel. From roughly 25 yards out, Patel then took a shot that beat Blum at the far post in the 43rd minute, for his first goal of the year.
Immediately after the restart, however, the Huskies were back on level terms.
Josh Semerene played in a beautiful cross to the near post from the left side of attack. Kennedy found himself some space to put an effort on goal, scoring his fifth goal of the year from five yards out.
The Tribe responded with heavy pressure on the Northeastern net, and twenty minutes later found itself in front. Ben Coffey took a shot on goal for William & Mary, with Blum able to make the initial save. The Husky keeper was unable to corral the rebound, however, and Joshua West popped up to steer home the loose ball from three yards out, giving the Tribe the 2-1 lead in the 67th minute.
Northeastern equalized mere seconds later.
Top Phataraprasit played a pass to Anding on the right side. Anding unleashed a vicious shot from around 15 yards out, beating Smolinsky at his near post for his second goal of the year.
Neither side could find a winner in the remaining time so the game headed to overtime, the Huskies' fourth overtime contest of the year.
Nine minutes into the first sudden-death period of extra time, a deciding goal was tallied. Nicolas Abrigo slid in a through ball to Chris Albiston in the left channel. Albiston took a shot from roughly 15 yards out that beat Blum, giving the Tribe the win in the 99th minute.
With the loss Northeastern drops to 10-6-2 (6-4-1 CAA), while William & Mary move to 10-8 (7-4 CAA) on the year. The Huskies will be in action next week when they battle Delaware in the CAA tournament. That match will be played on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. on the campus of James Madison University.
