BOSTON –
Northeastern swimming and diving claimed 10 individual event wins on Saturday in Barletta Natatorium, en route to a 187.5-112.5 victory over the visiting Vermont Catamounts on Senior Day. The Huskies sent their six seniors -- Kelley Becherer, Cassandra Cesaro, Nicole Colucci, Chelsea Lim, Keary McClernan and Allison Walker -- out in style.

In a change to the usual home meet event schedule, the 3-meter dive was the first event of the afternoon, and junior Candace Young took full advantage. Young, who finished first in the event, scored multiple sevens on her dives on her way to a season-best 267.07 score. Freshman Megan Rutter took second for NU, scoring a 221.47. Later in the 1-meter, Young took first yet again, with her 251.02, also a season-high for the junior.

The next event, the 200 medley relay, yielded another one-two punch from Northeastern as the Huskies swept the top-3 times (only two relay teams per squad may count, however). Dana Schleif, Julia Alvarez, Erica DeMunbrun and Kelley Becherer stole first place with a 1:49.11, followed by the quartet of Nicole Colucci, Deirdre Esposito, Alli Gielowski and Julia Sepulveda in second with a 1:51.65.

In the taxing 1000 freestyle, the Huskies picked up more crucial points, thanks to the efforts of Colleen McCormack and Jenny Doolin. McCormack's 10:38.09 was a season-best for the junior, earning her second place in the event, while Doolin followed close behind in third with a 10:45.57 clip.

The success continued for the Huskies in the 200 free as Megan Foran (1:55.56) and Kelley Becherer (1:56.23) went one-two, grabbing a total of 13 points for NU. Sophomore Anna Schegoleva claimed another victory for Northeastern in the next event, the 100 backstroke, swimming a 58.75.

Another sweep pushed the Huskies even further past the Catamounts after the 100 breaststroke. Alvarez (1:05.66), senior Keary McClernan (1:07.45) and Esposito (1:08.08 -- a season-best time) finished first, second and third, respectively.

In the 200 butterfly, DeMunbrun willed her way to a second place finish after swimming a clean 2:09.12 clip, just ahead of teammates Gielowski (2:09.94) and J. Sepulveda (2:09.95). In the lightning-fast 50 free, it was Becherer who finished in second, a mere half of a second behind first with her 25.34 pace.

Foran, J. Colucci and senior Chelsea Lim finished third, fourth and fifth in the 100 free, earning six more points for the Red and Black. Schegoleva once again proved victorious for the Huskies, this time taking the 200 backstroke, making it the second straight meet in which the sophomore has claimed both the 100 and 200 back events.

Following Schegoleva's performance, McClernan and Alvarez gave the Huskies yet another one-two finish, this time in the 200 breaststroke. Freshman Taylor Brew wasn't far behind the two, finishing in fourth.

In the lengthy 500 free, Foran claimed another victory, this time swimming a 5:06.15 for the win. McCormack placed third in the event for the Huskies.

Schegoleva claimed her third win of the afternoon, swimming a 59.08 in the 100 butterfly, just ahead of teammates DeMunbrun (59.67) and Gielowski (59.68), who finished in second and third for the Huskies.

Julia Sepulveda kept Northeastern in the winning column in the 400 IM, finishing with a 4:31.88 for the nine team points. Sister Adriana claimed fourth and freshman Sophie Browne stood fast in sixth.

In the final event of the afternoon, the 200 free relay, Northeastern claimed six more points with a second- and third-place finish from its foursomes. Foran, DeMunbrun, J. Colucci and Schegoleva finished in second with a 1:41.44, followed closely by the senior quartet of Cassandra Cesaro, Nicole Colucci, Chelsea Lim and Kelley Becherer with a 1:41.46.

The win gives Northeastern three on the year, with two meets remaining. Next week, the Huskies travel to Hanover, N.H., for the two-day Dartmouth Invitational, before closing the season out on the road at the University of Rhode Island.
