BOSTON – Five shots on goal were not enough for the Northeastern men's soccer team  to get past College of Charleston as it fell 1-0 to the Cougars on Senior Day at Parsons Field Saturday night.

Before the start of Saturday night's game the Huskies (6-7-3, 3-2-1 CAA) honored their five seniors: Laurence Braude, Jonathan Eckford, Nikko Lara, Dante Marini, and Conner Alexander.

The Huskies tested CofC (4-10-1, 2-3-1 CAA) goalkeeper Kees Heemskerk often in the opening period by putting four shots on goal. Erik Clark fired a bending line-drive shot from 20 years out in the 38th minute, but Heemskerk made the diving save to his right.

Four minutes later, Dante Marini led a quick counterattack and found a streaking Robbie Schallmo at the top of the 18-yard box. Schallmo gathered the pass and beat his defender with a quick move, but his shot heading towards the upper-left corner was once again stopped by Heemskerk.

NU goalie Dylan Faber didn't face any shots on goal in the opening period, but he thwarted several CofC plays, including a through pass early in the game when Faber came off his line to clear the ball.

Although the Huskies held a 7-2 edge in shots at the break, the teams entered halftime in a scoreless tie.

The Cougars nearly got on the board first in the 63rd minute when a crossing pass near the net was touched past Faber, but Simon Cox rushed in to clear the ball before it could cross the goal line.

The Huskies had a good chance to score in the 67th minute whenMarini picked up a rebound off a free kick, but his shot sailed over the net.

Xavier Rajpaul scored the game-winning goal for the Cougars in the 75th minute when he gathered a pass from Adan Noel 10 yards from the net and a turned a shot with his right foot to beat Faber.

The Huskies conclude their regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 6, for a 7 p.m. kickoff at UNCW.
