WILMINGTON, N.C. – Goals from Conner Alexander and Dante Marini, along with two saves from Dylan Faber, were not enough as UNCW received a hat trick from Matt Bonner to lead the Seahawks past the Huskies in the regular season finale on Wednesday night, 4-2.

With the loss, grouped with wins from Drexel and William & Mary, move the Huskies to the No. 5 seed in this year's CAA tournament. Northeastern will travel to Newark, Del. to square off with the Blue Hens this weekend at a time and date to be determined. Drexel won the regular season crown for the second straight season, and will host the semifinal and championship games next weekend in Philadelphia.

Shots were even at nine apiece in the match, while both teams generated four corners during the contest.

The teams went punch for punch during an up-tempo first half of play, with shots even at six apiece (4-4 shots on goal). UNCW would strike first in the 17th minute when Bonner netted his fourth goal of the season. Michael Parrish began the play by sending the ball up from the midfield, and Bonner caught up to it before sliding into it to knock it past Faber for the score.

Northeastern would pressure the Seahawk defense following the UNCW goal, sending three straight shots on goal from Alexander before converting on the third in the 23rd minute. After drawing a foul on the Seahawks, Simon Cox fired up the ball from the midfield, where Alexander redirected it with a header past UNCW goalkeeper Sean Melvin.

Bonner struck again less than three minutes after the Alexander's second goal of the year. After Faber controlled a corner insertion from Mateo Cardona, the Seahawks capitalized on a botched clear by the Huskies, and Bonner buried it for his second of the night.

Coming out of the halftime intermission, Northeastern leveled the score at two in the 54th minute when Marini stole a back pass to Melvin, and deposited a shot inside the left post for his team leading sixth goal of the season.

The Seahawks went up 3-2 20 minutes later when Jamie Dell scored his third goal of the season, taking a feed from Nathaniel Goodwin and buried a cross from the right side to beat Faber from five yards out. UNCW added an insurance goal three minutes later on Bonner's third of the game. After Cardona sent in a free kick, Bonner positioned himself in the right place to head it past Faber for a commanding two-goal lead late in the match.
