Day 2 Results | CAA Champs Central | Day 1 Recap
FAIRFAX, Va. – Northeastern broke more school records yet again on Day 2 of the CAA Championships as sophomore
Anna Schegoleva and junior
Julia Sepulveda led the way. Both Huskies broke the NU school record in the 200 IM. After earning spots in the consolation finals of the event, Schegoleva (2:02.21) and J. Sepulveda (2:02.67) finished one-two, both shattering the personal bests and the school record -- which, coincidentally, Schegoleva set in last season's CAA Championship. The duo combined for 16 team points with the speedy heat.
In the first event of the day, the 500 freestyle prelims kicked off Session 3 for the Huskies.
Adriana Sepulveda was the highest finisher, coming in at No. 20 for NU, swimming a 4:59.55. Sophomore
Megan Foran (5:01.64),
Jenny Doolin (5:02.34) and
Colleen McCormack all finished just behind A. Sepulveda with season-best times. But the four Huskies would finish outside the finals consolation cut-off.
The 50 freestyle prelims also kept the Huskies out of the finals, but all seven Northeastern swimmers in the event set season-highs. Senior
Kelley Becherer led the charge for NU, coming in 27th with her 24.31 sprint.
Nicole Colucci (24.43), sister
Jessica Colucci (24.44) and senior
Chelsea Lim (24.44) finished side-by-side behind Becherer, followed closely by Alli Gielowski in 36th (24.87), junior
Julia Alvarez (25.17) and senior
Allison Walker (25.42), who rounded out the top-40 times.
In the final women's event of the day, NU finished in seventh with a 1:35.71 in the 200 free relay. Becherer, N. Colucci,
Erica DeMunbrun and
Chelsea Lim faired well for the Huskies, earning 24 team points. For her efforts in the lead leg of the relay, Becherer set an American Paralympic record with her 24.21.
Day 3 will commence tomorrow with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breastsroke, 100 backstroke and the 1-meter diving.
