BOSTON –
After leading the Huskies to their most victories in more than a decade and capturing the program's 16th Beanpot championship in 2012-13, Northeastern women's ice hockey head coach Dave Flint has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him on Huntington Avenue through the 2017-18 season.

"We are pleased that Dave has agreed to a contract extension," Director of Athletics and Recreation Peter Roby said. "Since his arrival on campus, Dave has done an outstanding job of building a program that is highly-competitive on the ice, successful in the classroom, and involved in the community. He does great work on behalf of our student-athletes and I am glad that he will continue to lead our program in its ascent to the top of women's college hockey."

In four seasons at the helm of the Huskies, Flint is 73-51-17 (.578), highlighted by two Beanpot championships, two appearances in the Hockey East championship game and the 2012 WHEA Regular Season Championship. He has produced two All-Americans in Kendall Coyne and Florence Schelling and guided 11 student-athletes to All-Hockey East accolades.

"I want to thank Peter Roby and Northeastern for allowing me to stay at Northeastern for the next five years," Flint said. "We have accomplished many great things in my first five seasons, but we still have more goals to reach. I am excited about the direction of the program and look forward to the future."

Flint guided the 2012-13 Huskies to a 23-11-2 record, including a 13-7-1 mark in conference play, earning a spot in the Hockey East title game for the second time in the last three seasons. Flint's squad caught fire late in the season with a nine-game winning streak from Feb. 5 to March 9, the longest such streak since the 2001-02 season.

Since his arrival in Boston at the start of the 2008-09 season, Flint's team has caught the attention of the nation. NU enters the 2013-14 campaign having been ranked or receiving votes in the USCHO.com national poll in each of the past 47 polls, dating back to March 7, 2011.

Flint has also built a program that excels in the classroom. In addition to 48 student-athletes earning spots on the Hockey East All-Academic Team, including 13 last season, the Huskies have also collected four consecutive NCAA Public Recognition Awards, which are given to teams scoring in the top 10 percent nationally in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate (APR) in their respective sport.

Flint, who served as an assistant coach of the United States Women's Olympic Team that captured the silver medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, came to Northeastern from St. Anselm, where he built the women's hockey program from the ground up. After serving as assistant coach to the men's hockey team at St. Anselm for seven years, Flint took over the women's hockey team in 2003 and was charged with making the transition to varsity status, making it an immediate winner and going 88-15-2 (.848) overall in five seasons.

Northeastern kicks off the 2013-14 season on Sept. 29 with an exhibition contest against McGill (2 p.m.) before hosting Syracuse in the regular-season opener on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
