National Women's Development Team Selection Camp Roster

BOSTON –
Northeastern women's ice hockey junior Chloe Desjardins is one of 40 players who has been invited to Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp, taking place Aug. 10-18 at the Markin MacPhail Centre, Hockey Canada's home arena at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

The invitation list includes four goalies, 12 defensemen and 24 forwards. Invitations are based on evaluations by Hockey Canada scouts during the 2012-13 season, including past performances within Canada's National Women's Program, their club and school teams, and at provincial and national championships with Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as fitness testing conducted at Canada's National Women's Development Team conditioning camp held in Toronto, Ont., in May.

The 40 players attending Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp will be split into two teams, which will participate in several practices and intrasquad games, as well as off-ice dryland training, fitness testing and high performance classroom sessions.

Based on evaluations and performances at Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp, Hockey Canada will choose 13 development team players to join the 27 senior team players who will centralize with Canada's National Women's Team in Calgary for training to prepare for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. The 40 players will be split into Red and White teams, which will compete against each other in a three-game series set for Aug. 19-24 at the Markin MacPhail Centre.

Hockey Canada scouts, along with Canada's National Women's Development Team coaching staff, will continue to evaluate development team candidates with their club and school teams during the 2013-14 season in preparation for upcoming national and international events.

Desjardins is coming off a successful showing at the National Women's U22/Development Team conditioning camp and National Women's Program goaltending camp earlier this year. The Saint Prosper, Beauce, Quebec native finished the 2012-13 season with a 21-9-2 record along with a 2.58 goals against average and .913 save percentage. She was second on the NU single-season record lists for games played (33), tied for third in wins (21) and fifth in saves (850). In addition, Desjardins was 24th in the nation and fourth in WHEA in goals against average, 23rd in the country and third in Hockey East in save percentage, and tied for eighth in the country in shutouts (four).

Desjardins was named a Hockey East Honorable Mention All-Star, was a six-time WHEA Defensive Player of the Week honoree and a two-time WHEA Goaltender of the Month recipient. She also earned the 2013 Bertagna Award, given to the best goaltender in the Beanpot, after backstopping the Huskies to victories against top-five opponents en route to the program's 16th Beanpot championship.

Northeastern kicks off the 2013-14 season on Sept. 29 with an exhibition contest against McGill (2 p.m.) before hosting Syracuse in the regular-season opener on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
