2013 CWHL Draft
BOSTON – Rachel Llanes and
Casey Pickett, two of Northeastern women's ice hockey's most prolific scorers, were both chosen by the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) in the conference's annual draft this week.
Pickett, who was selected in the third round (15th overall), finished her collegiate career at Northeastern last season. The Wilmington, Mass. native is 11th on the NU record list for career points (125), tied for 14th in career goals (59) and 11th in career assists (66).
Pickett saw her scoring skyrocket during her final two seasons on Huntington Avenue, registering 41 and 47 points in her junior and senior seasons, respectively. She was named a WHEA Second Team All-Star as a senior after finishing second on the team with 21 goals and 26 assists. A two-year captain, Pickett became the 21st player in Northeastern history to record 100 career points on Dec. 1, 2012. Earlier in the season, she was the first Husky since 2002 to net four goals in a game on Nov. 3, 2011 against Connecticut.
A leader both on and off the ice, Pickett was a four-time member of the Hockey East All-Academic Team, and earned "Distinguished Scholar" status in 2013 after posting a grade point average of 3.0 or better in each semester during her four varsity seasons.
Llanes (San Jose, Calif.) was a sixth round pick by the Blades (30th overall) after notching a 38 point season (14 goals, 24 assists) for the Huskies in 2012-13. She reached the 100 career point plateau on Senior Day against Providence on Feb. 24, 2013, becoming just the 23rd player in team history to do so.
Llanes finished her career 17th on the NU record list for career assists (61), and is tied for 22nd in career points (102). She was also named to the WHEA All-Academic Team as a senior.
