ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Northeastern women's hockey team played to its second tie in as many days on Saturday, battling to a 2-2 stalemate at RIT at the Gene Polisseni Center.

The Huskies (0-0-2) took a 2-0 lead in the second period on goals by sophomore Hayley Masters and freshman McKenna Brand, but could not hold on as the Tigers (2-1-1) battled back to pull even with less than a minute to play in regulation.

Northeastern held a 40-25 advantage in shots, including a 21-5 edge in the second period, and scored its first power-play goal of the season on Brand's first collegiate tally.

After a scoreless opening period, the Huskies got on the board first when junior Colleen Murphy intercepted an RIT clearance and played the puck ahead to Masters, who was charging into the Tigers' zone with speed. Masters shook off an RIT defender and cut to the slot, before squeezing a shot through the pads of RIT netminder Brooke Stoddart (38 saves) to make it 1-0 NU at the 11:19 mark of the second period.

Northeastern doubled the lead six minutes later. On the Huskies' second power play of the game, sophomore Heather Mottau played the puck to freshman Denisa Krizova at the right point. Krizova eluded a defender and then tumbled to the ice, before regaining her balance between the circles. Krizova then delivered a crisp cross-ice feed to Brand, who rifled a shot from the right wing that went off the left post and in with 2:52 left in the frame.

The Huskies did themselves no favors in the final two minutes, however, taking two quick penalties to give RIT a 5-on-3 opportunity. The hosts wasted no time making Northeastern pay as Christa Vuglar ripped a shot from the high slot past senior Chloe Desjardins to make it 2-1 with 53 ticks showing on the second period clock.

Northeastern nearly regained its two-goal cushion with eight minutes left in the third when junior Paige Savage streaked in on the right wing and wristed a shot over the shoulder of Stoddart and off the iron.

Desjardins (23 saves) then came up big at the other end with a blocker-save on a Lindsey Grigg blast with 3:20 left to play.

Down by a goal in the final minute, RIT elected to pull Stoddart in favor of the extra attacker. On an offensive-zone draw, the Tigers' Celeste Brown fired a quick shot that Desjardins sticked away. RIT's Darcy Henderson got to the rebound first, however, and snuck the puck inside the left post to tie the score with 33 seconds left in regulation.

In the overtime period, the Huskies came close to winning the game when junior Kendall Coyne threw a puck into the crease that pinballed off a skate in on goal, but Stoddart got her paddle down to keep the puck out.

The Huskies will look to pick up their first win of the season next weekend when they face Mercyhurst for a pair of games in Erie, Pa.
