PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Junior Kendall Coyne scored the game-tying goal with 16 seconds left in regulation to help the Northeastern women's hockey team (1-2-3) erase a two-goal, third-period deficit in a 2-2 tie at Robert Morris (3-6-1) on Saturday at 84 Lumber Arena.

Sophomore Hayley Masters also scored for the Huskies, who outshot Robert Morris, 45-32, including a 13-1 margin in the third period. Robert Morris netminder Courtney Vinet made 43 saves, while senior Chloe Desjardins stopped 30 shots, including 19 in the first period.

Similar to Friday's game, Robert Morris threw the first punch, before Northeastern answered late. Midway through the first period, Rikki Meilleur jammed home a loose puck after a net-mouth scramble to put the hosts up, 1-0, at the 11:02 mark. The lead held into the second period when Meilleur struck again, this time off a pretty centering feed from Katherine Murphy on the power play, to make it 2-0 with 2:15 to play in the frame.

Down but not out, Northeastern responded only 32 seconds into the third when Coyne found Masters streaking into the RMU zone with speed. Using the defenseman for a screen, Masters ripped a low, hard shot inside the left post from the top of the right circle to cut the Colonials' lead to 2-1.

Nearly a full period elapsed before the Huskies struck again for the tying goal. With less than 20 seconds to play and Desjardins on the bench, senior Colleen Murphy worked the puck back to the right point to sophomore Heather Mottau. Mottau did well to hold the puck in, before threading a pass to Coyne at the top of the left circle. With her back to the net, Coyne spun around and tucked a shot between the pads of Vinet to set off a wild on-ice celebration with 16.3 ticks remaining.

The Huskies then nearly won the game in overtime when they were awarded a power play with 1:40 left in the frame. On a scramble in front of the RMU net, freshman Shelby Herrington nudged a shot that got through Vinet, but trickled inches wide of the left post.

The Huskies return to action on Tuesday for their Hockey East opener at Boston University at 7 p.m.
