Northeastern Athletics releases 2013-14 Annual Report

2013-14 Northeastern Athletics Annual Report

BOSTON — The Northeastern University Department of Athletics and Recreation released its 2013-14 Annual Report on Monday, Dec. 8. The report is available HERE.

A message from Director of Athletics and Recreation Peter Roby:

We are pleased to offer this annual report to those who so generously supported Northeastern Athletics in 2013-14. From high academic achievement and inspiring community partnerships to conference championships and Olympic glory, our student-athletes and staff continued to raise the bar and provide us with so many points of pride.

In competition, our women's soccer team upset top-seeded James Madison in the CAA title game to earn the program's second CAA title and a berth in the NCAA tournament. Women's rowing captured its fourth CAA title in the last six years by sweeping the conference championship regatta, while men's rowing again established itself as one of the nation's top collegiate programs by finishing fifth in the overall team points category at the IRA National Championship. Our men's ice hockey team posted the fourth-largest turnaround in the NCAA in 2013-14 with a 10-win improvement, and our men's basketball program upset Georgetown on national television in one of the team's 13 overall TV appearances.

Individually, a host of Huskies earned all-conference honors while a distinguished group of current and former students represented the university on the world stage. Northeastern had the fifth-most Olympic participants in 2014 of any NCAA institution, with Kendall Coyne, Steve Langton, Julia Marty, David Poile, Florence Schelling, and Hilary Witt participating in the Sochi games.

In the classroom, our student-athletes posted a cumulative GPA above 3.000 for the 13th consecutive semester, while 58 of our student-athletes earned their degrees during the 2013-14 academic year. Impressively, nearly half of all student-athletes who earned degrees last year graduated with honors.

In the community, we strive everyday to make a difference in the lives of young people and in the neighborhoods in which we live and work. From our inspiring partnership with Team IMPACT, to our participation in the annual CAA Blood Drive and our work with the Greater Boston Food Bank, our student-athletes and staff exhibited a high level of community engagement in 2013-14.

While the efforts of our student-athletes and staff bring us great reasons for pride, it is the fan support and financial backing our alumni, parents, and friends that make it all possible. More than 3,600 individuals and corporations supported the education and competitive pursuits of our student-athletes in 2013-14. On behalf of our coaches, staff and, student-athletes, thank you.

We need your continued support as we build championship-level facilities, provide global training experiences, offer expanded academic opportunities, celebrate program milestones, and invest in endowed coaching positions.

Together, we will continue to provide Northeastern student-athletes with an unparalleled opportunity to achieve academic and athletic success at one of the world's premier institutions.

Go Huskies!
