PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Two early goals from Providence proved to be too much for the Northeastern men's soccer team (2-5-0) as the Huskies dropped a 3-1 decision to the Friars on Saturday night at Glay Field.

Brad Fountain scored the lone goal for the Huskies on a set piece in the 21st minute, while Dylan Faber made four saves in his second start of the season.

PC outshot the Huskies 12-8 in the match, including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. NU, meanwhile, earned five corners to the Friars' two.

Providence came out strong in the first half, burying two goals in the first 16 minutes of the match before Northeastern was able to cut the deficit in half midway through the first 45 minutes. Julian Greesel put the Friars on the board 10:44 into the game when he took a pass from Mac Steeves, dribbled around Faber and deposited the ball into the bottom right corner.

After Faber denied Daniel Neustadter following the goal, Fabio Machado scored his second of the year after receiving a feed from Rob Bialy and fired a shot from six yards out into the right side of the cage.

Fountain brought Northeastern right back into the match in the 21st minute on a set piece when he blasted a shot into the far post and past Broome for his second of the season. The teams traded chances following the Fountain tally, including another save from Faber in the 34th minute.

Faber came up big again for the Huskies in the 53rd minute, denying Gressel on a bouncing shot from the right side to keep the game 2-1. Four minutes later, Harry Swartz created a scoring chance for NU when he fired a shot on goal that Broome got a piece of.

Fountain had another bid in the 65th minute when he rocketed a shot from the top of the box that just missed the left post.

Providence would put the match out of reach with 9:48 to play in regulation when Mark Andrade dribbled through the defense before popping a shot into the bottom right of the net and past Faber for his second goal of the season.

The Huskies will be back in action on Tuesday when Northeastern travels across town to Cambridge, Mass. for a matchup with Harvard at 7 p.m. For complete coverage of Northeastern and Northeastern soccer, follow us on Facebook (Northeastern & Northeastern Men's Soccer) and Twitter (@GoNUathletics & @GoNUmsoccer).
