NORFOLK, Va. – Despite six saves from junior goalkeeper Dylan Faber, the Northeastern men's soccer team (1-3-0) was unable to overcome a 77th minute goal from Old Dominion as the Monarchs topped the Huskies on Sunday night at the STIHL Soccer Classic, 1-0.

Faber, who made his first start of the season on Sunday, tied a career-high with his six stops. NU was outshot 17-9 during the match, including a 7-3 ODU edge in shots on goal. The Monarchs also generated eight corners, including six in the second half, to Northeastern's two. Donovan Fayd'Herbe de Maudave led the Huskies with two shots.

After a scoreless 45 minutes of play to begin the match, a half that saw ODU outshoot the Huskies 8-5 (5-2 shots on goal), the Monarchs continued to pressure NU throughout the second half.

Christian McKenna and Frantzdy Pierrot nearly connected for the game's first strike early in the second half when Pierrot dribbled the ball into the right side of the box before threading it towards the cage to a streaking McKenna, but McKenna couldn't get a foot on the pass.

Faber kept the match scoreless minutes later when he squared up to Nicholas Hutchinson, who flew in from the left side and tried to sneak a low shot through Faber, but the junior netminder stood his ground to make the save.

Fayd'Herbe de Maudave had a chance to give Northeastern the lead with less than 30 minutes remaining in regulation when he got an open look from atop the box, but he ripped his shot to the right of the cage.

It wasn't until the 77th minute when the Monarchs drew first blood off the foot of Geoffrey Hill. After Ryan Condotta controlled the ball along the right side of the pitch, he fed it to Hill who then sent it past Faber for a 1-0 ODU advantage that held up through the final 13 minutes of regulation.

The Huskies will be back in action on Saturday when Northeastern hosts UMass Lowell at Parsons Field at 6 p.m.
