HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Despite powering home a season-high eight shots on goal, the Northeastern men's soccer team came up on the wrong side of a 2-1, double-overtime shootout against No. 22 Hofstra Wednesday night on Long Island.

Entering the game following halftime, sophomore midfielder Christian McKenna scored his first goal of the 2015, helping the Huskies draw even with the Pride at 1-1 in the 54th minute. Sophomore Khesanio Hall assisted on McKenna's goal, raising his season-assist total to three.

Shots came early and often throughout Wednesday night's game as both sides combined to take 32 during the evening, with Hofstra (10-3-0, 5-0-0 CAA) sporting a slight, 17-15 advantage against Northeastern (1-8-2, 1-4-0 CAA). The Pride controlled the tempo for the majority of the game's first 20 minutes, recording the first four shot attempts of the match.

Daniel Arvidsson had a chance to put the Huskies on the scoreboard first in the 24th minute, curling a free kick around the Hofstra wall and into the hands of the Pride's keeper, Patric Pray. After possessing the ball for close to five uninterrupted minutes, Hofstra took a 1-0 lead on Lerthon Theuma's first goal of the season in the 34th minute.

Trailing the Pride by one heading into the break, Northeastern wasted little time finding the game's equalizer as McKenna and Hall executed a brilliant counter-attack in the 54th minute to tie the match at a goal apiece. After Jonathan Thuresson and Pray had traded saves on opposite ends of the pitch, the Huskies were awarded two corners before the 70th minute, but were unable to find the back of the net.

In overtime, Northeastern saw three corners leave the foot of Kevin Carvalho, with the best chance to score coming on Ackim Mpofu's header in the 94th minute. Having kept Hofstra to just one shot during the first overtime period, the Pride responded during the first half of the second period, producing two shots, one on goal, and earning a corner in the 107th minute. Joseph Holland ended the game for Hofstra shortly after, scoring his sixth goal of the season on a pass from Jon Fraser.

Northeastern will head back to Brookline, Massachusetts, on Saturday, Oct. 17, for a 6 p.m. CAA game against Delaware.

Goal Recaps

-After entering the game thirty seconds beforehand, Lerthon Theuma put the Pride ahead, 1-0, in the 34th minute, heading in a cross from Jon Fraser on the right side of the field.
-Having intercepted a pass in the midfield, Christian McKenna initiated a counter-attack up the middle of the pitch, feeding Khesanio Hall with a lead pass up the right side line. Following a one-on-one move near the end line, Hall crossed back to McKenna in front of the net, who polished off the play with a tap-in goal.
-On its first corner during either overtime period, Hofstra's Joseph Holland received a pass from Fraser across the middle and placed it in the left corner for the game-winner.
