BROOKLINE, Mass. – Trailing Delaware by one goal after a back-and-forth first half, the Northeastern men's soccer team could not quite find the ultimate game-tying goal as the Huskies came up on the short side of a 3-2 result against the Blue Hens.

Northeastern (1-9-2, 1-5-0 CAA) outshot Delaware (6-6-2, 3-2-0 CAA), 15-12, overall and, 7-6, on goal, leading its opponent in both statistical categories for the first time this season. Frantzdy Pierrot led the Huskies with five shots, sending three on net and scoring his fifth goal of the year.

Ackim Mpofu and Khesanio Hall shared assists on Pierrot's first-half goal, upping their season counts to one and four, respectfully. Hall also tallied two shots, one on goal, while teammate Harry Swartz notched three during the evening.

Sophomore co-captain Jonathan Thuresson saved three of the six shots sent his way, finishing the game with 37 saves on the year. Thuresson made an incredible save in the 60th minute, diving through the air to stop a curling shot from the Blue Hens' Thomas de Villardi and keeping the Huskies' deficit at 3-2.

During the opening 21 minutes of the match, both teams combined for five goals, six shots, and two corners. Northeastern's third-minute goal, ruled an own goal by Delaware, was the earliest goal the Huskies have scored during 2015.

Northeastern will take a break from CAA action and resume its non-conference schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 21, when the Huskies travel to Holy Cross for a 7 p.m. game. NU will return to Parsons Field for Senior Day on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. against College of Charleston.

GOAL RECAPS
-Northeastern (3'): Lewis Aird took the Huskies' first corner of the game from the right side, sending it into the center of the middle box. Although Harry Swartz and Andrew Lombard missed the volley with outstretched legs, the ball took a deflection off the knee of a Delaware player as NU built an early 1-0 advantage.
-Delaware (9'): Six minutes after Northeastern had taken the lead, Joe Dipre raced up the right side of the field and sent a low cross to his teammate, Ryan Talbot, at the top of the box. Talbot used one touch to send the tying goal through on Jonathan Thuresson's right side.
-Delaware (11'): Having recorded an assist not two minutes before, Dipre put Delaware ahead, 2-1, with an unassisted run up the right side and through the middle of the field.
-Delaware (19'): On a corner from the right side, Thomas de Villardi floated a ball into the middle of the box, where Thibault Philippe soared above the NU defenders and headed in his second goal of the season.
-Northeastern (21'): Leading a counter-attack, Ackim Mpofu charged up the middle of the pitch, working a give-and-go with Khesanio Hall on the right side. Following Hall's touch, Mpofu crossed the ball to the center of the box and in front of the Delaware keeper, where Frantzdy Pierrot headed in his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
