Jonathan Thuresson (five saves) and the Huskies' defense locked down the potent UNC attack for the better part of 90 minutes, before Hume's superb winner at the 83:16 mark.
Northeastern (3-10-2) had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 56th minute when
Frantzdy Pierrot headed the ball past the UNC keeper, but the shot was cleared off the goal line by a defender and out of harm's way.
Goal Recaps• North Carolina (14-1-1) scored the only goal of the game with less than seven minutes to play in the match. Omar Holness played a dangerous ball into the NU box for Hume, who spun to his left to avoid two defenders, before finishing with a rocket over the shoulder of Thuresson from 10 yards out.
Stats of the Game• Thuresson posted at least five saves for the fourth time this season.
• North Carolina outshot Northeastern, 15-6, including a 6-3 margin in attempts on goal.
• The Tar Heels were whistled for offsides six times in the match as NU played an effective high line on defense.
Up NextThe Huskies will close out their CAA schedule on Saturday with a matchup against Drexel at 4 p.m. in Philadelphia. Northeastern is still alive for the sixth and final CAA playoff spot, but will need to beat the Dragons on Saturday and get two JMU losses in order to clinch.
