InfographicDURHAM, N.H. – The Northeastern freshman class accounted for four goals and senior
Chloe Desjardins made 33 saves to help the Northeastern women's hockey team (11-15-5, 10-8-2 WHEA) to a 5-1 win at New Hampshire (9-20-3, 6-12-2 WHEA) on Saturday at the Whittemore Center.
Freshman
Denisa Krizova scored twice and junior
Kendall Coyne dished out three assists to propel the Huskies to their sixth straight win over UNH. The win, combined with Maine's overtime loss to UConn, gives Northeastern the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Hockey East playoffs.Â
Freshman
McKenna Brand opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 8:21 mark of the first period. Coyne drew the only assist to extend her point-streak against the Wildcats to eight straight games.
Krizova then doubled the advantage with 21 seconds remaining in the period. Senior
Colleen Murphy and freshman
Taytum Clairmont drew the helpers on Krizova's 11th tally of the season.
Krizova struck again just 4:41 into the second stanza, converting a feed from Coyne to make it 3-0 Northeastern.
UNH finally solved Desjardins at the 16-minute mark of the period when Cassandra Vilgrain netted her fourth goal of the year off a feed from Amy Boucher.
Northeastern wasted little time in restoring its three-goal cushion as
Lauren Kelly became the third NU freshman to light the lamp on the day with her sixth of the season at the 3:37 mark of the third. Coyne drew the primary assist to post at least three points in a game for the seventh time this season.
Senior
Chelsiea Goll then put the cherry on top of an impressive performance with her first goal of the year with 6:12 remaining following a pretty setup from sophomore
Hayley Masters.
The Huskies will go for the season sweep of UNH on Sunday with a 3 p.m. contest at Matthews Arena. Prior to the game, Northeastern will honor its five seniors:
Chelsey Goldberg,
Lucie Povova, Goll, Murphy and Desjardins.
