BOSTON – Six Northeastern student-athletes were honored Wednesday at the annual Huntington 100 celebration at the home of Northeastern President Joseph E. Aoun.

Victoria Alexander, Bianca Calderone, Dylan Faber, Matej Herega, Maria Lanyi and Amy Steele were among the 112 honorees who were selected as the University's top representatives in the classroom and the community.

"You all have made an impact," Aoun told the distinguished group of students. "You are leaders on a global level. You are now part of our future leadership. No matter where you go, you will always be Huskies."

The honored students were nominated based on criteria that are commensurate with the University's mission, ideals, values and academic plan. The selection committee considered students for their impact on the campus community, record of service, global engagement, demonstrated leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to the ideals and values of Northeastern.

A senior on the women's track and field team, Alexander owns a 3.20 GPA as a communications studies major. A two-time Dean's List honoree and a CAA All-Academic Team selection, Alexander posted the seventh-fastest 60-meter time in program history with a 7.62 mark at the 2014 Valentine Invitational.

A junior on the men's soccer team, Faber boasts a 3.78 GPA in political science and is on track to graduate in three and a half years. Faber was named the Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) Male Student-Athlete of the Year earlier this week, and has earned Dean's List and CAA All-Academic distinctions as well. On the field, Faber started 10 games as a goalkeeper in 2014 and posted a 1.11 goals against average and two shutouts.

A junior on the men's rowing team, Herega owns a 3.80 GPA as an electrical engineering major. A five-time Dean's List honoree and three-time SASS Top Dog, Herega has rowed in the bow seat of the third varsity eight in two races this season (both wins), and also rowed in the bow seat of the second varsity eight against Brown on April 18.

Teammates on the women's soccer team, Calderone, Lanyi and Steele each excelled in and out of the classroom over the past year.

A physical therapy major with a 3.49 GPA, Calderone became the first player in program history to be drafted into the National Women's Soccer League when she was selected by the Boston Breakers on Jan. 16. Calderone also collected a slew of honors in 2014-15, including CAA Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-CAA, First Team All-New England, First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, and First Team NSCAA Scholar All-East Region. Calderone started all 23 games in 2014, posting 10 points and helping the NU defense set a new single-season record with 17 shutouts.

Lanyi owns a 3.96 GPA in behavioral neuroscience. A member of the Dean's List, CAA All-Academic Team, and a SASS Top Dog, Lanyi was named a top five finalist for the prestigious Wooden Citizenship Cup, which honors the most outstanding role model in the NCAA. Among her many charitable endeavors, Lanyi created her own charity, Score to Cure, which aims to raise awareness and funds in the fight against pediatric cancer.

Steele boasts a 3.91 GPA as a health science major. A Dean's List, CAA All-Academic, and SASS Top Dog honoree, Steele was named the SASS Female Student-Athlete of the Year earlier this week. Steele has also been heavily involved in community service initiatives and helped Lanyi launch the Score to Cure charity.

The Huntington 100 program, which is run by the Office of Student Affairs, selected the students based on nominations from their peers, including faculty, staff, coaches, advisors and other students.

Northeastern Athletics is committed to excellence in offering inspiring athletic, educational and personal development opportunities through its core values of leadership, critical thinking, the concept of coach as educator, appreciation of difference and community service.
