Post-Game InterviewBROOKLINE, Mass. – An early 1-0 lead courtesy of sophomore forward
Frantzdy Pierrot unraveled for the Northeastern men's soccer team during the final minute of the first half as the Huskies played to a 1-1 draw against Temple on Sunday at Parsons Field.
Â
Freshman
Chris Flores tallied the first point of his collegiate career in the 19th minute when his cross from the left corner of the box found a charging Pierrot through the middle for the Huskies' first goal of the 2015 season.
Â
Despite outshooting Temple (1-0-1), 16-10, Northeastern (0-0-1) managed to place only three shots on goal, including Pierrot's first-half goal.
Harry Swartz's shot in the 27th minute and
Ackim Mpofu's 58th-minute header were both stifled by the Owls' goalkeeper Alex Cagle.
Â
Senior
Dylan Faber earned the nod at goalkeeper during the Huskies' season opener, picking up two saves and during the entire 110 minutes of play. With less than a minute to play in the first half, Faber came out of the net to challenge Temple's Jorge Gomez Sanchez, but a sliding tackle by
Andrew Lombard redirected the ball to Jordan Wix-Rauch, who scored the equalizer for the Owls.
Â
NU would assemble an impressive streak of four consecutive corners early in the second half, but the Huskies were only able to produce two shots and just one on goal. Northeastern attempted eight corners in total during the afternoon, compared to Temple's two.
Â
Although the Huskies were unable to send a shot on goal during either overtime period, Faber successfully blocked Dan White's attempt in 104th minute, helping preserve the 1-1 draw.
Â
Northeastern will begin a tough, two-game road trip this weekend when the Huskies travel to the Golden State to battle Pac-12 members Stanford (Sept. 4) and California (Sept. 6).
