BOSTON – Northeastern director of athletics
Peter Roby announced the addition of Pamela Wetherbee-Metcalf as the department's senior associate athletic director – campus recreation and club sports, effective Sept. 1, 2015.
"We are thrilled to welcome such a proven leader and innovator to our department in Pam," Roby said. "She brings a wealth of Recreation experience to Northeastern having built facilities, implemented programs and developed dedicated staff throughout her career."
In her new post, Wetherbee-Metcalf will be responsible for stewarding Northeastern's vision of being the best urban campus recreation and club sport program in the nation, and will oversee all Campus Recreation operations, facilities, intramurals, fitness, non-credit instruction, aquatics, club sports programs and special projects.
"I am extremely excited about joining the Northeastern community", Wetherbee-Metcalf said. "Campus Recreation and Club Sports play an integral role in the lives of all undergraduates at Northeastern, whether they enjoy group fitness classes, intramural sports or club sports, the offerings here are diverse. I consider it a privilege to lead the Campus Recreation efforts moving forward, with the support of the Campus Recreation team."
Throughout her career, Wetherbee-Metcalf has been selected to manage and direct three new recreation facilities for three different universities since 1996, with noteworthy experience in sports facilities operations, renovation, maintenance and construction.
Prior to her arrival on Huntington Avenue, she spent 14 years as the director of recreational sports at Loyola University Maryland. There, she directed the day-to-day operations and services at the newly constructed Fitness and Aquatic Center, a 115,000 square foot multipurpose facility. During her time in Baltimore, she oversaw four significant facility renovations, and was responsible for managing a $1.2 million dollar operating budget. Wetherbee-Metcalf also established and implemented a Risk Management Plan that encompassed all programs, equipment and facilities offered within her department and established all maintenance, custodial and security requirements for the facility.
Before Loyola, Wetherbee-Melcalf spent one year as the director of the recreation center at Fitchburg State University. There, she directed the day-to-day operations and services, and was responsible for providing recreational and stress relief options for all members of the university. She also assisted the grand opening celebration committee with all aspects of the grand opening of the Recreation Center just three months after being hired.
Wetherbee-Metcalf earned her bachelor's degree in sports, fitness and leisure studies at Salem State University in 1988, where she was a member of the women's basketball team. During her career, the Vikings women won the NCAA Division III National Championsip in 1986, and also finished third in the nation in 1984. The 1986 team was inducted into the Salem State University Hall of Fame in 1996 and the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. Wetherbee-Metcalf also holds a master's degree in sport management from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.
"I look forward to collaboratively working with the campus community in a variety of ways," Wetherbee-Metcalf said, "as well as being in a position to support the broader Athletics Department in my new role."
