BOSTON – Northeastern women's hockey head coach
Dave Flint announced Thursday that senior
Kendall Coyne will serve as the Huskies' captain in 2015-16, while senior
Tori Hickel, junior
Melissa Haganey, and junior
Sarah Foss will serve as alternate captains.
"I feel that we have a great leadership group in place for the upcoming season," Flint explained. "It was a tough decision, but ultimately we chose four great people who we felt would mesh well together as the leaders of the team. We'll also be counting on several players who won't be wearing a letter for their leadership qualities as well."
Coyne will enter her second season as captain of the Huskies in 2015-16. The Palos Heights, Illinois, native was named a First Team Hockey East All-Star and a Second Team ACHA All-American last season after compiling 52 points in 31 games.
Hickel enters her senior campaign with 102 games of collegiate experience under her belt. The defenseman from Anchorage, Alaska, suited up for 33 contests last year and chipped in six assists from the blue line.Â
A 2014-15 Hockey East All-Academic selection, Haganey heads into her third collegiate season after appearing in 64 games as a freshman and sophomore. Haganey scored a pair of game-winning goals last season against Maine on Jan. 24 and New Hampshire on Feb. 22.
Foss enters the new year as the most experienced goaltender on the squad. The North Reading, Massachusetts, native saw action in eight games last season, including the second round of the Women's Beanpot against BU–a game in which Foss made a career-high 38 stops.
Northeastern will open the 2015-16 season on Sept. 26-27 against St. Lawrence in Canton, New York.Â
