Post-game InterviewBROOKLINE, Mass. – Two goals by the Northeastern men's soccer team were not quite enough to successfully land the Huskies' first points of the 2015 conference season as James Madison rallied past NU, 3-2, in a double-overtime game Wednesday at Parsons Field.
Â
Sophomore forwards
Harry Swartz and
Frantzdy Pierrot provided Northeastern (0-6-2, 0-2-0 CAA) with a pair of goals during the match, helping NU achieve its first multi-goal offensive display of the 2015 season. Despite building two separate one-goal leads against James Madison (2-6-1, 1-1-0 CAA), NU was only able to lead for a collective four minutes and 33 seconds on Wednesday as the Dukes answered back quickly to tie the game both times.
Â
Swartz opened the game's scoring in the 33rd minute with a shot from inside the right side of the box that stayed low to the ground, deflecting off the left post and in. Pierrot and
Khesanio Hall were each credited with an assist on Swartz's first goal of the season.
Â
Less than four minutes later, James Madison's Billy Metzler leveled the game at 1-1 with a header goal that hugged the post and traveled just beyond the reach of the Huskies' goaltender,
Dylan Faber.
Â
After Pierrot put Northeastern back in front with an acrobatic, back-heel kick off a pass from Hall in the 69th minute, the Dukes responded during the very next minute, capitalizing on an NU turnover at the top of its defensive box.
Â
Eric Schmidt lifted James Madison to the double-overtime victory in the 103rd minute, heading a ball left of Faber for the game-winning goal.
Â
Northeastern will travel to No. 10 Elon on Saturday, Oct. 3, for a 7 p.m. conference matchup. The Phoenix will be the third NSCAA ranked team the Huskies will face during the 2015 season (No. 16 Stanford, No. 22 UNCW).
