BROOKLINE, Mass. – Martin Nygaard's penalty kick goal with 22 seconds remaining in regulation helped the Northeastern men's soccer team avoid the shutout against William & Mary on Saturday night as the Huskies played to a 4-1 score line at Parsons Field.

Northeastern (2-8-2, 1-3-1 CAA) conceded four goals to William & Mary (5-4-3, 1-2-2 CAA) during a 15-minute window within the first half. Ryder Bell (18th minute), Reeves Trott (25th), Antonio Bustamante (28th), and Christian Jones (34th) provided the scoring for the Tribe, with Bustamante earning assists on each of his teammate's goals.

Khori Bennett did his best to bring the Huskies back into contention, producing four of his team's six shot attempts during the second half. Bennett lured Phil Breno into making saves during the 76th and 82nd minutes before Nygaard disrupted the keeper's clean sheet.

William & Mary outshot Northeastern, 10-8, amassing an 8-2 advantage during the first half. Saves between Breno and Jonathan Thuresson were even at three apiece.

GOAL RECAPS

• William & Mary (18th minute): From behind the midfield line, Antonio Bustamante played a forward pass up field to William Eskay, who received the ball in stride and continued on a 15-yard run before feeding Ryder Bell at the top of the 18-yard box. Bell beat Gaku Lange, Moustapha Samb, and Jonathan Thuresson to the ball, sending his first touch over Thuresson to put the Tribe ahead, 1-0.

• William & Mary (25th minute): Receiving a cross from the backfield, Ryder Bell played a forward pass along the left flank to Antonio Bustamante, who moved towards the end line before centering the ball to Reeves Trott. On his first touch, Trott redirected the pass from Bustamante to the top left corner of the net from six yards away.

• William & Mary (28th minute): Handling a bouncing ball within the midfield circle, Riley Spain crossed forward to the edge of the Tribe's 18-yard box, eyeing Antonio Bustamante. Defending the cross, Moustapha Samb mistimed his header clearance, allowing Bustamante to receive the ball and flick an easy strike over Jonathan Thuresson.

• William & Mary (34th minute): William & Mary flooded its attacking box upon winning a set piece from roughly 25 yards out along the left side. Antonio Bustamante sent the free kick into the box, where Christian Jones headed the cross towards the right post and through.

• Northeastern (90th minute): With the Huskies orchestrating a late attack, Martin Nygaard was fouled in the box by Sam Golan, awarding Northeastern a penalty kick with 22 seconds remaining in regulation. Nygaard beat Phil Breno to the left post, recording his second penalty kick goal of the 2017 season (Sept. 9 vs. UMass Lowell).
