BROOKLINE, Mass. – Overcoming a 6-0 shot deficit during the second half, the Northeastern men's soccer team capitalized on its one and only strike after halftime to win Saturday's CAA opener at Parsons Field as Harry Swartz headed in Lewis Aird's cross 31 seconds into overtime to lift the Huskies to the 1-0, overtime victory against College of Charleston.

Northeastern (2-3-1, 1-0-0 CAA) amassed four shot attempts during the first half before playing an uneventful second half in comparison that did not feature a shot on target for either side. College of Charleston (2-3-0, 0-1-0 CAA) came close to netting the game's first goal on several occasions during the second stanza, misfiring on three tries during the final 10 minutes of regulation.

NU goalkeeper Jonathan Thuresson faced 14 shots from the Cougars, making a pair of saves during the 31st and 32nd minutes en route to notching his first clean sheet of the season and 11th of his four-year Northeastern career.

Swartz accounted for three of Northeastern's five shot attempts on Saturday, sending two headers on goal, including his match-winning strike during the 91st minute. The NU co-captain had a right-footed shot from the top of the Huskies' 18-yard box blocked during the 18th minute before forcing Charleston's Kevin Shields into a save on his 24th-minute header. Swartz's goal marked his first in 17 appearances at Northeastern, dating back to Sept. 30, 2015, at Parsons Field against James Madison.

Lewis Aird assisted on Swartz's match-winning goal, collecting his first collegiate point during his 48th NU appearance. Freshmen Adama Kaba and Alec Supinski both recorded shots for the Huskies; Kaba had his 14th-minute attempt saved by Shields, while Supinski's 19th-minute header skied off target.

Eleven different Charleston players combined to produce the squad's 14 shots. Cesar Murillo and Tucker Heffron combined for two shots apiece, while Khalil Abderahman and Avery Ryan sported the Cougars' two shots on goal.

GOAL RECAP

• Northeastern (91st minute): Alec Supinski began overtime by kicking off to Griffin Sabatini, who played the ball towards Moustapha Samb along the left sideline. Tested one-on-one by the Charleston defense, Samb passed backwards to his keeper, Jonathan Thuresson, who sent a booming kick towards the midfield circle. There, Supinski headed up field to Harry Swartz, who battled for the ball and found Lewis Aird open on the left side before sprinting towards the net. On two touches, Aird crossed into the center of the Huskies' box, where Swartz executed a diving header to score Northeastern three CAA points.
