Steve Langton named to U.S. Olympic Bobsled Team

ST. MORTIZ, Switzerland – Former Northeastern track and field standout Steve Langton will compete in his third Olympic Games next month following his selection to the 2018 U.S. Olympic Men's Bobsled Team.

Langton, a Melrose, Massachusetts, native, competed in the sport at the Olympic Games in Vancouver and Sochi. In Sochi in 2014, he earned a bronze medal in both the two- and four-man bobsled events to bring home the United States' first medal in the sport since 1952. He retired from competition following his success in Sochi but announced his return in time to compete in and win the 2017 National Push Championship – for the fifth time – and work to earn a spot on the Olympic Team's 12-man roster.

As a two-year captain of Northeastern's men's track and field team (Class of 2006), Langton placed third in the 100-meter dash at the 2004 Outdoor America East Championships and third in the 55-meter dash at the 2005 Indoor America East Championships. His 4x100 meter relay time of 41.06 seconds ranks 10th on Northeastern's all-time performance list, as do his times in the 60-meter dash (7.05 seconds, 11th all-time) and 100-meter dash (10.88 seconds, 14th all-time).

He graduated from Northeastern with honors, earning a degree in business management and entrepreneurship.

A 2008 Rookie of the Year in bobsledding, Langton is a two-time Men's Bobsled Athletes' Choice Award winner and two-time Men's Bobsled Athlete of the Year. He has earned 21 World Cup medals and championed events at the 2011-12 Europa Cup and 2012 World Championships.

Langton is one of four former Huskies who will compete in Pyeongchang in February – three women's hockey alumnae will take to the ice, representing three different countries. Kendall Coyne (2016) will skate in her second Olympic Games for Team USA, Florence Schelling (2012) is slotted to play between the pipes for Switzerland, and Laura Schuler (1993) will coach Team Canada.
