BOSTON – Despite holding a 38-28 shot advantage, the No. 9 Northeastern women's hockey team came up just short on Friday in a 3-2 setback against No. 8/7 Colgate at Matthews Arena.

Senior Kasidy Anderson and sophomore Veronika Pettey lit the lamp for the Huskies (1-1-1), while sophomore Brooke Hobson dished out two assists and added three blocked shots.

Malia Schneider paced the Raiders (3-2-0) with a goal and an assist, including the eventual game-winner at 10:51 of the third period that put the visitors ahead 3-1.

Colgate never trailed in the game and capitalized twice in the first two minutes of periods, striking first at 1:52 of the opening frame on a tally by Jessie Eldridge, and again at 1:02 of the second period on a goal by Eleri MacKay to make it 2-0.

Northeastern twice pulled within a goal as Anderson sniped the short-side on a rush up the right wing at 17:24 of the second stanza to make it 2-1. Then, trailing 3-1 in the third, Pettey notched her third power-play goal of the season with a redirection at the left of the net off a Hobson point-shot.

The Huskies could get no closer, however, as Colgate blocked 38 shots in the game and received a 36-save performance from goaltender Julia Vandyk to preserve the 3-2 victory.
