BOSTON – Seeking its first Boston Derby victory during its fifth attempt since 2008, the Northeastern men's soccer team put forth a convincing effort against Boston University on Tuesday night at Nickerson Field, blanking the Terriers, 2-0, to win the series' 31st all-time meeting.
Â
Dan Munch scored the opening goal during the 36th minute for Northeastern (5-6-1), which collected its first road win at BU since the 2003 America East quarterfinals (fourth attempt). Munch intercepted the Terriers' ball over the midfield line and triggered a give-and-go attack with
Alec Supinski, delivering his final touch from eight yards away in front of the left post.
Â
Exiting halftime with the 1-0 lead, the Huskies conceded two quick corners to Boston University (3-8-3), but managed to stage a well-executed counter-attack during the latter.
Tyler Welch prompted the end-to-end run during the 47th minute, playing a lengthy through ball ahead to
Dom Galletti, who completed the one-on-one finish to double Northeastern's lead.
Â
The Huskies' second goal marked the first of Galletti's collegiate career while jointly providing Welch with his first collegiate assist and point.
Â
Chandler Cree recorded two saves, weathering the Terriers' light attack. Total attempts between the two sides were level at 8-8.
