BOSTON – Sophomore Aerin Frankel pitched her third shutout in four starts with 31 saves to help the No. 8 Northeastern women's hockey team (5-1-1) remain unbeaten in Hockey East play (4-0-1) with a 2-0 victory over Providence on Friday evening at Matthews Arena.

Junior Andrea Renner and freshman Alina Mueller provided the offense with a goal each, while sophomore Veronika Pettey extended her season-opening point-streak to seven straight games with a pair of assists.

The Huskies took the lead at 16:35 of the first period on a beautiful exchange between senior Tori Sullivan and Renner that led to a backhand between the five-hole of Providence netminder Madison Myers (24 saves) in the low slot.

Northeastern doubled the lead at 3:54 of the second period when Pettey swung behind the PC cage and delivered a perfect centering pass to Mueller, who hammered it home to extend her point-streak to six straight games.

Despite a 31-26 shot advantage, Providence was not able to find a way through Frankel, who stopped 10 shots in the first period, nine in the second and 12 in the third to lower her goals against average to a sparkling 0.75 through four starts.

The Huskies will look to cap the weekend with two more points on Sunday vs. Boston University at 2 p.m.
