BROOKLINE, Mass. – For the first time since 2014, the Northeastern men's soccer team is headed to the CAA tournament as the Huskies scored a major program win on Tuesday during the final day of the regular season, upsetting No. 13 UNCW, 1-0, at Parsons Field to secure the league's final postseason spot.

Tyler Welch accounted for the lone goal of the match, sending Northeastern (6-8-1, 3-4-1 CAA) in front during the 67th minute with his 20-yard, curling strike from the left corner of the box. Dan Munch and Jacob Marin-Thomson played consecutive passes to Welch, who buried his first collegiate goal during his 15th rookie appearance.

With the victory, the Huskies celebrated their second win against a nationally ranked opponent under third-year head coach Chris Gbandi, having defeated No. 12 UMass Lowell at Parsons Field during their 2017 home opener.

UNCW (12-4-2, 5-1-2 CAA) outpaced Northeastern in first half attempts, 8-1, despite registering only two attempts on target – both of which were denied by freshman goalkeeper Chandler Cree, who finished the match having made five saves.

Welch's goal was scored on the Huskies' fourth attempt of the match and was the first such attempt to land on target.
