BOSTON – Sophomore goaltender
Aerin Frankel pitched a 28-save shutout and senior
Kasidy Anderson scored two goals to power the No. 9 Northeastern women's hockey team to a 5-0 victory over Boston University in the regular season opener Friday at Walter Brown Arena.
Sophomore
Veronika Pettey, freshman
Chloe Aurard and sophomore
Skylar Fontaine also lit the lamp for Northeastern (1-0-0, 1-0-0 WHEA), while freshman
Gillian Foote earned her first two collegiate points with a pair of power-play assists.
Special-teams play was the difference in the early stages as the Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead through one period courtesy of two power-play goals. Anderson accounted for the first, stashing home a rebound at the right of the cage at 9:33, before Pettey tacked on a second at 19:42 with a deflection at the left of the net.
Both goals were assisted by Foote and sophomore
Brooke Hobson, who posted her first collegiate multi-point game.
Aurard then added a shorthanded tally at 8:33 of the second stanza, intercepting a pass in the BU zone before making a highlight-reel move in the crease to fool BU netminder Corinne Schroeder (28 saves).
Anderson potted her second of the night at 15:58 of the second period after undressing a pair of defenders and rifling a shot under the crossbar from between the circles.
Fontaine put the cherry on top at 8:38 of the final frame, going coast to coast along the left-wing boards after an assist from Frankel in the defensive zone.
The Huskies' netminder looked cool, calm and collected throughout the game to earn her fourth collegiate shutout.
The Huskies will look for the weekend sweep on Saturday against BU at 3 p.m.
