Northeastern student-athletes set highest cumulative GPA on record!

BOSTON – Northeastern student-athletes achieved a 3.329 cumulative grade point average during the Fall 2018 semester, marking the 22nd straight semester student-athletes have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater. This fall semester's GPA is the highest on record for the athletics department, and is also an increase from the spring, when student-athletes earned a cumulative 3.257 GPA.

The women's soccer team was the highest-achieving program, boasting a 3.573 GPA. Swimming and diving (3.569) and cross country (3.549) were next in line on the women's side. Cross country topped the men's programs with a 3.400 GPA, followed by rowing (3.330) and soccer (3.269).

Top Dog honors were presented to 52 student-athletes who earned a 3.8 GPA or higher. Of those students, 18 earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. Additionally, Dean's List status was awarded to 126 student-athletes.

Wednesday's results come one month following the NCAA's announcement that revealed a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 90 percent for all Northeastern student-athletes, compared to a national average of 88 percent for all Division I institutions.

Of the 13 NU programs included in the report, nine scored at or above the national average for their respective sport. Seven teams—baseball, men's cross country/track and field, women's cross country/track and field, women's ice hockey, men's soccer, women's swimming and diving, volleyball—achieved a perfect GSR of 100 percent. Each of those seven teams ranked first in their conference in graduation success.
