CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The Huskies captured the gold medal in the 200 medley relay on Wednesday to open up the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Championships. Northeastern is in second place after the first day of competition, four points behind William & Mary.Â
The relay team of Sidney Smith, Klara Juliusson, Sara Touchette-McGowan and Megan Clark set a new program and CAA meet record with a time of 1:39.28. The Huskies broke the school record previously set at the 2017 CAA Championships.
This was the first gold medal in the 200 medley relay at the CAA Championships in Northeastern program history. It was also the first CAA gold-medal performance in a relay since 2008 for the Huskies.
In the 800 freestyle relay, Northeastern took fifth place. Sara Touchette-McGowan, Carly Schnabel, Joanna Wojciechowska and Matilda Weiler swam a season-best time, 7:25.95.

The Huskies continue competition on Thursday with four swimming events and the three-meter diving. Swimming preliminaries will kick off at 10 a.m., diving preliminaries will start at 12:30 p.m. and finals will begin at 6 p.m.
