HARRISONBURG, Va. – Remaining level with James Madison on Saturday night for more than an hour, the Northeastern men's soccer team withstood the bulk of the Dukes' relentless attack despite conceding the eventual match-winner to Brandon Clegg during the 71st minute as the Huskies lost their CAA opener, 1-0, at Sentara Park.
Â
Dan Munch, who headed in Tuesday's golden goal for Northeastern (2-5-0, 0-1-0 CAA), charted the Huskies' only two attempts during the match. Munch pegged the crossbar during the 23rd minute and directed his second attempt wide during the 54th minute.
Â
James Madison (4-2-1, 2-0-0 CAA) scored its lone goal off one of its 18 corners, which are the most that a Northeastern opponent has registered during the Huskies' CAA tenure. Yannick Franz assisted on Clegg's first goal of the season, which put the Dukes in front with less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
Entering Saturday, Northeastern had yet to concede during 33 opposing corners (now once during 51 corners) and had allowed only one set piece goal.
Â
Noah Abrams recorded five saves, tying his season high (Sept. 3).
