STORRS, Conn. – The No. 3 Northeastern women's hockey team clinched a berth in the Hockey East playoffs with a 4-1 victory over UConn on Saturday at Freitas Ice Forum.

First period goals by Skylar Fontaine, Andrea Renner and Kasidy Anderson gave the Huskies (17-3-3, 15-2-2 WHEA) a commanding 3-0 first-period lead, and Tessa Ward tacked on her first collegiate shorthanded goal in the second period to help Northeastern earn the weekend sweep of UConn (13-11-1, 8-9-1 WHEA).

Sophomore goaltender Aerin Frankel stopped 25 shots to improve to 12-1-1 overall and 11-0-0 in league games.

Renner's first-period strike extended her point streak to four straight games, while Anderson pushed her point streak to nine straight games, including seven consecutive contests with a goal. Freshman Alina Mueller earned the lone assist on Anderson's tally to push her NCAA-leading point streak to 22 straight games.

The Huskies will return to action for two home games against Vermont next weekend, starting Friday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m.
