Madden scores two but No. 14 Huskies tie Holy Cross

BOSTON – With sophomore forward Tyler Madden scoring its two goals on Saturday night, the No. 14 Northeastern men's hockey team turned its 1-0 deficit against Holy Cross into a 2-1 lead early during the third period, despite settling for the 2-2 tie at Matthews Arena.

Less than two minutes after Northeastern (3-0-1) had surrendered the game's opening goal with 4:35 remaining in the second period, Madden buried a one-timer along the left goal line to even the score. Zach Solow and Julian Kislin earned the assists on Madden's first goal of the season – his first in the wake of his 12-goal rookie season.

NU struck again 72 seconds into the third period when Matt Filipe skated out of the Huskies' defensive zone, feeding Madden on the left wing for the back-hand crossing goal. Jordan Harris helped Northeastern secure the puck from the Crusaders and was credited with his second assist of the season.

Holy Cross (1-1-1) evened the score with 14:45 remaining in regulation as Conner Jean tipped a pass from Patrick O'Leary off the right pad of Craig Pantano and inside the pipe. Pantano saved 22 of the 24 shots he faced while the Crusaders' netminder, Erik Gordon, made 23 saves.

Andrew Dumaresque's high-sticking penalty with 3:05 remaining in the third period provided Northeastern with a late power play and the chance at the game-winner, but the Huskies were denied a shot on goal, shooting into five blocked shots.
