Club Sports achieve record success in 2018-19

BOSTON -- Northeastern Athletics would like to recognize the University's Club Sport programs, which have had an immensely impressive 2018-19 season. With 57 active teams and 2,102 active participants, the Club Sport program's participation is at an all-time high, having increased by 34% since 2017.

In just the last year, Club Sports has launched an Esport initiative with six teams and 70+ rostered members, successfully opened and managed the brand new Carter Playground, and implemented many new initiatives to improve the Club Sport experience, including a lift program, agility/conditioning sessions, and a drop-in clinic for rehab and training.

A whopping 38 of the teams competed at their respective Nationals this year, nine more than the previous school record of 29. Of those, two teams won national championships.

Men's volleyball won the D1AA Championship, defeating Xavier in straight sets. Alexander Esco won Tournament MVP, and Wesley Cheung and Eliot Smullen earned All-Tournament First Team honors. Tae Kwon Do was the other national championship winner, taking home the DII ECTC Championship.

Men's ice hockey, field hockey (spring), Hearthstone (varsity), and women's running (open) all finished as national runner-ups, and another 10 teams finished within the top 10 at their respective national championships.

At the regional level, women's volleyball, women's lacrosse, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, men's rugby, and softball all won championships as well. An additional 11 teams finished in the top 10 at their regional competitions.
