No. 13 Northeastern Upends No. 8 Providence, 4-3

PRESS CONFERENCE

BOSTON - Zach Solow scored the game-winning goal on the power play in the third period and added an assist, while Tyler Madden and Aidan McDonough each added a goal and assist to lead No. 13 Northeastern (14-7-2, 8-6-1 Hockey East) to a 4-3 win over No. 8 Providence (14-7-5, 8-6-2 Hockey East) on Friday inside Matthews Arena in front of a lively crowd. The Huskies earn their first series win over the Friars since the 2014 season.

Madden opened up the scoring in the first period after he intercepted a pass and scored on a breakaway just over 14 minutes into the game. Matt DeMelis put the Huskies up 2-0 on a deflection from Matt Filipe and Solow a few minutes later in the period.

Providence would get on the board in the second period to cut the deficit to one goal, but the Huskies responded as McDonough took a beautiful pass and buried a hard wrist shot to extend NU's lead back to two goals, 3-1, at the 13:08 minute mark. The Friars scored the next two goals at the end of the second period and early in the third period to tie the game at 3-3. Solow would then benefit from some nifty passing on the power play by the Huskies to notch the game winner.

Craig Pantano made 30 saves in the game and came up with some big stops in the second period for the Huskies.

Northeastern will take on No. 16 Harvard in the Beanpot on Monday at TD Garden. The puck will drop at 5 p.m.
