Northeastern Produces Virtual Howlin' Huskies Awards

SENIOR TRIBUTE VIDEO

BOSTON -
Northeastern produced its first-ever virtual Howlin' Huskies Awards on NESN on Saturday, highlighting all the top accomplishments from the 2019-20 season. The women's hockey and men's rowing teams were named Athletic Teams of the Year, while sophomore Alina Mueller (women's hockey) and junior Ian Fair (baseball) and sophomore Tyler Madden (men's hockey) earned Athlete of the Year honors.

The women's hockey team proved to be the best team in the country over the duration of the season, picking up an NCAA-best 32 wins. The Huskies captured the Hockey East regular-season title, Hockey East tournament title and Beanpot title for the first time in the same season, and trounced UConn in the Hockey East Championship Game, 9-1.

Northeastern's first varsity had a strong final stretch to post a fifth-place finish at the 2019 Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships. The Huskies finished ahead of Princeton, Brown, BU, Syracuse, Dartmouth, Cornell, Wisconsin, Stanford and Penn. The men's rowing team was also a finalist for the Community Service Award.

Mueller broke the single-season school record with 10 game-winning goals and finished third in the country with 66 points. She was selected as a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, earning First Team All-American, and Hockey East Tournament and regular season most valuable player honors.

Fair won the CAA batting title with a .357 average and smashed a team-best eight home runs, tied for eighth in the CAA during the 2019 campaign. He hit .500 in the CAA tournament to earn All-CAA first team and all-tournament honors, ending the season on a 14-game hitting streak while driving in 33 runs.

Madden was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award and earned All-American East second team honors after finishing third in the country in goals per game (0.70) and fifth in points per game (1.37). He tallied a goal in the Beanpot Championship game in a win over BU and ended the season on a 10-game point streak for the Huskies, eventually signing a pro contract with the Los Angeles Kings.
