No. 14 Huskies Earn 3-2 Road Win over Merrimack

BOX SCORE (PDF) | POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.
- Matt DeMelis and Riley Hughes scored first period goals, while Dylan Jackson netted his second straight game winner to lead the 14th-ranked Northeastern Huskies to a 3-2 win over Merrimack on Sunday at Lawler Rink. The Huskies (5-3-2 Hockey East) earned the sweep over the Warriors (1-5-0 Hockey East) in this home-and-home series and are 6-0-2 in their last eight trips to Merrimack.

Connor Murphy made 26 saves in net to earn his fifth win of the year. The Huskies now have 20 players that have recorded a point this season, and Jackson has scored a goal in each of the last three games. Hughes recorded his third goal of the season against Merrimack.

Northeastern took the lead in the first period after some strong work from Aidan McDonough behind the net as he fed teammate DeMelis for the one-timer in front of the net. Jordan Harris earned a secondary assist as the Huskies led 1-0 with just over five minutes left in the period. Hughes extended the lead after a shot from the blue line found the back of the net, assisted by Marco Bozzo and Julian Kislin, with just under four minutes left in the period to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

The Huskies increased their lead to three goals in the second period after Jackson pushed a rebound past the Merrimack goaltender after a shot from Gunnarwolfe Fontaine just two minutes into the period. The Warriors scored the next two goals, both midway through the second and third periods, but the Huskies were able to hold off the late charge to secure the one-goal victory.

No. 14 Northeastern will host New Hampshire on Wednesday inside Matthews Arena in a regionally-televised game on NESN at 6 p.m.
