Maureen Murphy Granted Immediate Eligibility

BOSTON - Northeastern's Maureen Murphy has been granted immediate eligibility for the remainder of the 2021 women's hockey season for the fourth-ranked Huskies, announced on Wednesday. Murphy transferred to Northeastern from Providence in the summer 2020 and is a redshirt junior.

"I am extremely grateful to play a sport that has brought me so much in the middle of such uncertainty," said Murphy. "I am really excited about the opportunity to be part of an institution, athletics department and league that has made this possible, and I want to express my utmost appreciation to the Hockey East and the Women's Hockey Executive Committee for taking the time out of their hectic schedules to consider this decision."

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Murphy is a two-time Hockey East All-Star (2018, '19) and was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 2018. She tallied eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) for the Friars last season before being injured after 11 games. Over her career at Providence, she posted 45 goals, 34 assists and 79 points in 84 games played.
