Providence, R.I – Skylar Fontaine earned her 100
th career point for No. 4 Northeastern as the Huskies shut out No. 7 Providence Saturday afternoon, 5-0, in Schneider Arena.
Alina Mueller led the way with two goals and two assists, while
Chloe Aurard tallied a goal and an assist for the Huskies.
Aerin Frankel tallied 27 saves to earn her fourth shutout this season, and continues to break her school record with 23 career shutouts for Northeastern.
For her second consecutive game,
Aurard kickstarted the goal scoring in the first and was followed a minute later by Fontaine with the first power-play goal of the game from Mueller and
Brooke Hobson to end the first up 2-0. The Huskies came out firing in the second period as Mueller tallied her fourth goal of the season to increase the lead to three after two periods of play.
Tessa Ward and Mueller both secured power-play goals to give the Huskies a five-goal victory.
A native of East Greenwich, R.I., Fontaine adds the 100-point milestone after already holding school records among defensemen in career scoring, career game-winning goals and single-season assists. She also earned the Hockey East Best Defenseman in 2019-20, leading the country with a +49 rating, and her 42 points (17 goals, 25 assists) were second among NCAA blue-liners.
