BOSTON – Brooke Hobson and
Alina Mueller each scored to lead No. 3 Northeastern (4-1-1 HEA) to a 2-2 draw against New Hampshire (3-8-1 HEA) on Saturday evening at the Whittemore Center. UNH earned the extra point with a shootout victory.
Â
The Wildcats took the lead in the first period, but the Huskies responded on the power play in the second period as Hobson sent a blistering slapshot on a nice setup from Mueller and
Skylar Fontaine. NU took the lead in the third period on a beautiful tic-tac-toe play between Mueller and
Chloe Aurard. With under two minutes remaining, the Wildcats found the equalizer on a fortunate bounce that came off the boards and deflected right into the goal.
Both goaltenders stopped the first four shootout attempts, and after UNH's Ava Boutilier stopped the fifth attempt by the Huskies, the Wildcats' Paige Rynne found the back of the net. NU's
Aerin Frankel made 16 saves, while Boutilier tallied 30 saves.
Â
The Huskies will host No. 7 Providence this Tuesday inside Matthews Arena at 7 p.m in a regionally-televised game on NESN+.
