No. 17 Huskies Fall to No. 20 UMass Lowell in Overtime

BOX SCORE (PDF)

LOWELL, Mass.
— Freshman forward Justin Hryckowian scored in the second period but No. 17 Northeastern men's hockey (8-4-0, 4-3-0 HEA) couldn't hold on as they fell in overtime 2-1 to No. 20 UMass Lowell (5-1-2, 2-1-0 HEA) at the Tsongas Center on Friday night.
  • After a scoreless first, Hryckowian got an opportunity on a Huskies power play. The freshman found himself in the slot as a shot from sophomore forward Gunnarwolfe Fontaine (6) bounced to him and he finished off the rebound opportunity. Junior forward Aidan McDonough (2) got the second assist.
  • With the goal, Hryckowian now leads all Hockey East freshmen with nine total points this season. He also leads Huskies freshmen in goals (3) and assists (6).
  • After his assist, Fontaine has now earned a point in three straight games and has six points in his last eight games. The sophomore is tied for second on the team with eight points this year.
  • Sophomore goaltender Devon Levi made 23 saves on the evening including stopping his first career penalty shot.
  • Defensively, the Huskies kept the puck away from the net, blocking 15 shots compared to UMass Lowell's three blocks. Junior defenders Jayden Struble and Tyler Spott each led NU with three blocks.
After picking up a point in the overtime loss, the No. 20 Huskies will return to Boston and play a home-and-home series on Friday, November 19 and Saturday, November 20 against Boston University. The first game is at Boston University at 7:30 p.m. on College SportsLive and the second game is home in historic Matthews Arena at 7 p.m. on NESN+.
