BOX SCORE (PDF)

PROVIDENCE, R.I.
— The top line of graduate student Maddie Mills, senior Alina Mueller and senior Maureen Murphy combined to score four goals, graduate student defender Skylar Fontaine had four assists and senior goaltender Aerin Frankel made 29 saves as No. 5 Northeastern women's hockey (8-2-0, 7-2-0 HEA) beat Providence (3-3-2, 2-2-0 HEA) 5-1 on the road on Friday evening.
  • The Huskies fell behind early to Providence, but it didn't take Murphy long to tie the game up as she took assists from Mueller (1) and Fontaine (10).
  • NU took the lead in the second period when Kate Holmes took passes from Fontaine and junior forward Peyton Anderson, sniping home her first finish of the season.
  • Mueller also scored her first of the season, finding the back of the net off a tip-in goal from a Fontaine ripper at the blue line. Murphy got an assist, her sixth so far.
  • Later on that period, the Huskies struck again to complete a three-goal period. Mills stole the puck from a Providence defender and went on a breakaway to light the lamp again and extend the lead to 4-1. It was her fifth of the season, second-most on the Huskies.
  • Murphy scored once again in the final period as Mueller and Fontaine found the senior for her ninth of the season and fifth for the Huskies on the day.
  • Murphy now leads the team and Hockey East in goals with nine on the season and Fontaine holds the lead in assists for both the team and the conference. She also leads both the team and Hockey East in points.
  • After her performance, Fontaine also is second on the team in points and is third in Hockey East for points.
  • Mueller earned her first three points of the season in just her second game played, playing only one game this season prior to tonight.
  • With the win, the Huskies have won six of their last seven matches with Providence, dating back to February 15, 2020.
Don't go away for too long! The Huskies will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they return home to take on Providence at 2 p.m. at historic Matthews Arena on College SportsLive.
