ELON, N.C. — Sophomore forward
Rose Kaefer struck early and junior goalkeeper
Angeline Friel made three saves, but Northeastern women's soccer (9-9-1, 5-4-0 CAA) couldn't hold on to beat Hofstra (16-3-1, 6-2-0 CAA) as they fell 2-1 in the final game of the 2021 CAA Women's Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon.
- Kaefer's goal came off a free kick that was sent in by sophomore defender Faith Rosenblatt (5) and headed on by junior midfielder Alexis Legowski (4). She took the header and finished it off her right foot into the bottom corner to open the scoring and get her third goal of the season in the 18th minute.
- In the second half, Kaefer struck again in the 62nd minute but the goal was disallowed due to a foul occurring directly before the shot.
- Legowski, grad. student defenders Mikenna McManus and Julianne Ross and junior midfielder Porter Dooley anchored the team, each playing all 90 minutes and making numerous key plays.
- Ross, Legowski and McManus each earned spots on the 2021 CAA All-Tournament Team for their contributions to the Huskies' effort throughout the CAA Championship.
- This was the Huskies' first CAA final appearance since 2017.
- This year, Northeastern qualified for its conference-leading 11th straight CAA tournament after earning 15 conference points in CAA play.
With the loss in the CAA final, the Huskies have not clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. NCAA Tournament selection will be held on Monday, November 8 to determine the field for this year's NCAA Tournament.
