Chris Gbandi Named Head Men’s Soccer Coach At Connecticut

BOSTON – The University of Connecticut announced Friday that Chris Gbandi has been named its next men's soccer coach.

"I would like to thank Chris for his six years of service to Northeastern University and the men's soccer program," said Jim Madigan, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "He leaves our program in a good place following a successful season in 2021, and we wish him the very best as he returns to his alma mater."

Gbandi spent six seasons on Huntington Avenue, highlighted by an 11-6-2 overall record and second place finish in the CAA standings (5-2-1) in 2021. The Huskies have reached the CAA Tournament in three out of the last four seasons.

Gbandi coached one All-CAA First Team, four All-CAA Second Team, seven All-CAA Third Team and five All-CAA Rookie Team members in his tenure, including seven All-CAA honorees in 2021.

"We remain committed to building a men's soccer program that our student-athletes, alumni and supporters can be proud of," Madigan said. "We will move swiftly to find the next leader of our program who will continue helping us elevate to the highest possible levels on the field and in the classroom."

Cam Omsberg will assume the role of interim head coach as a national search for the next leader of the men's soccer program begins immediately.
