Two Klingen Goals Lift Huskies Over Quinnipiac

BOX SCORE (PDF)

HAMDEN, Conn. — Senior forward Benjamin Klingen scored goals in the 26th and 94th minutes as senior forward Dan Munch added a score in the 14th minute to push Northeastern men's soccer (7-1-1, 2-0-0 CAA) past Quinnipiac (5-2-0, 0-0-0 MAAC) in a 3-2 overtime victory Saturday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Soccer Complex to continue the best start in Northeastern history since at least 1984.
  • Klingen scored his second and third goals of the season and was assisted by Jacob Marin-Thomson (5) and Timothy Ennin (2) on the overtime game-winner.
  • Munch's first goal of the season was also assisted by Marin-Thomson, who registered his fifth assist on the season to tie fellow Husky Federico Tellez at the top of the assists leaderboard in the CAA and for second in the NCAA.
  • Munch ended with a goal and an assist on the day.
  • Overall, the Huskies outshot Quinnipiac 14-10 and earned eight corner kicks to the Bobcats' five, pressuring their defense all afternoon.
  • Defenders Kolade Salaudeen, Jack Monte and Zach Sauer were rock solid on the back line, each playing all 94 minutes and holding Quinnipiac to five shots on target.
  • Goalkeeper Colby Hegarty made three saves in his ninth complete game of the season. He now holds a .810 save percentage, good for fifth in the CAA.
  • The Huskies have won five straight games and are rated as the number five team in the country per the RPI. Their only loss was to New Hampshire, the top-ranked school in the RPI.
  • This is the Huskies' best start since at least 1984. The last time Northeastern won seven games in a season was in 2014.
In their next match, the Huskies will travel to UNC Wilmington for a conference matchup with the Seahawks. They will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 2 on FloFC.
