BOSTON, Mass. – The no. 15 ranked Northeastern University men's ice hockey team (16-8-1, 8-6-1) fell to the no. 14 University of Massachusetts-Lowell (14-5-3, 11-4-1) by a score of 1-2 on Friday evening at Matthews Arena.
After falling behind, the Huskies tried to battle back from a two-goal deficit, but were unable to get the equalizer in the third period.
- UMass Lowell struck first midway through the first period at 10:47. The River Hawks would hold on to lead 1-0 at the first intermission.
- The River Hawks got their second midway through the second frame on an unassisted play.
- The Huskies tallied one midway through the second period as Matt DeMelis (3) scored his third goal of the season with assists from Jeremie Bucheler (8) and Sam Colangelo (8).
- TJ Semptimphelter had his first career start making a career-high 30 saves on the night. In the 25th game of the season he's just the second goaltender for NU to be the goalie of record.
- Northeastern killed off all four UML power play opportunities on the night. The Huskies were stopped on their lone power play chance of the night.
Northeastern will next play host to Vermont on Friday, February 4th in Matthews Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on NESN.
