BOX SCORE (PDF)

BOSTON – The top-seeded Northeastern men's ice hockey team (25-12-1) fell to the number four seed University of Connecticut (20-15-0) by a score of 4-1 on Friday afternoon at TD Garden in the Hockey East semifinals.

  • UConn got on the board first with a rebounded shot that fell to the stick of Vladislav Firstov who potted it for a 1-0 lead 11:39 into the first period.
  • On a power play late in the period, Aidan McDonough (24) answered back with a back door snipe to tie the game at 1-1. Jordan Harris (15) and Gunnarwolfe Fontaine (17) were credited with the helpers.
  • Northeastern got another powerplay at the end of the first, and another early in the second, but were unable to take the lead on either.
  • 13:47 into the second frame, a shot off the pipe by UConn was collected by Roman Kinal who got it past Levi to retake a one-goal lead.
  • UConn tallied the dagger 4:32 into the third period on an unassisted effort by Ryan Tverberg.
  • UConn tacked on an empty-netter late in the period to make the score 4-1 – Northeastern appeared to be back on the board with an empty-net, power play goal shortly after, but the play was reviewed and determined to be offsides.

The Northeastern Huskies await the results of the weekend's conference playoff tournaments and Sunday's NCAA selection show (6:30pm, ESPNU) to determine if their season continues.
